At stake in this week's Graduate Student Elections:
- A GSA budget of roughly $900,000 annually
- Substantial administrative and planning influence
- All winning officers are paid a salary of $600/month out of our student fees, plus FREE PARKING (oh no!)
Please vote using http://my.ucla.edu. As an individual, I am supporting PEP, the Public Education Party, which includes two of our very own MA students: Luis and Cheye-Ann. Learn why myself and countless others are taking 3 minutes out of our day to vote for PEP by viewing this introductory video:

Important election information for all 1st years, 2nd years, and PhD students:
Starting Monday at noon, voting will commence for the 2010-2011 UCLA Graduate Student Association officers. Go to http://my.ucla.edu to vote.
The candidates have organized themselves into two slates running for office:
1. GSA Momentum: Led by the incumbent GSA President, Jamal Madni, now running for his third term.
2. Public Education Party: Led by Lincoln Ellis, a Law School student who was instrumental in passing a resolution to protect the UCLA Labor Center from budget cuts. It is worth pointing out that this slate includes two Urban Planners: Luis Limon and Cheye-Ann Corona.
Please take the time to view the parties' websites and inform yourself on the issues and vote online at My.UCLA.edu this week.
The graduate student councils are not allowed to officially endorse candidates or slates (Urban Planning is part of the Social Sciences Council). As individuals, you also have every right to endorse a candidate/slate, so please feel free to do so.
As an individual, I have decided to endorse the Public Education Party because I strongly believe we need new and qualified leadership that will be much stronger advocates for graduate student rights around budget cuts, health care, issues of equality and diversity, and student programming. Our current cabinet has had many opportunities to step up more boldly around issues that really impact grad students; and, in my opinion, not only did not step up but at times even tried to de-rail efforts for positive change. On the contrary, the Public Education slate is filled with qualified, experienced leaders who are committed to making real, lasting change for graduate students on campus. That is my personal and informed opinion and I hope you'll look into the two slates and make a decision for yourselves.
There are many other issues on the platforms, so please familiarize yourself with the slates and vote this week! I am happy to answer questions in a non-biased way on any of the candidates or issues at stake.

I know election is over, but I still feel it is important to note that officers DO NOT get free parking. There are a number of passes available to GSA, reserved parking permits, but officers pay for their permits like every other student (and staff and faculty). Same cost.
