Welcome!
This blog is produced by and for graduate students in Urban Planning at UCLA. It's lifeblood is the wealth of intriguing links, videos, pictures and research on urban issues that we come across each day on the web. Sharing these items with our peers not only helps to build an informed group of future urban leaders, but provides an excellent opportunity to write and share our opinions with the larger online community. Also provided are shared calendars, maps, and other informative resources.
Our sponsored advertisements by Google help raise funds for sending UCLA students to conferences and seminars regarding urban issues. We also attempt to recoup the operations and maintenance costs of the website. If you see something interesting, please don't be shy about clicking it! And if you or your company would like to further sponsor our efforts, please contact a steering committee member below.
How to Join:
Contributions from UCLA Urban Planning students and alumni are welcomed and encouraged; to join, contact a BruinPlanners Steering Committee member from your class:
Class of 2009: Sirinya
Other Classes: Contact any of the above
Steering committee members are representatives and administrators of the blog for their peers at UCLA's Department of Urban Planning, and generally you'll see them posting frequently as well. We meet periodically to discuss changes and improvements to the blog and make decisions on allocating our small income from ad revenue. There is no limit on the number of steering committee members each year, so please consider being one.
How to Blog:
The best quality posts have a picture or video on top, a few sentences below, and a page-break for posts longer than a paragraph. Sometimes these little flourishes that might take just an extra 30 seconds of your time can go a long way to making this site more readable, user-friendly, and addictive.
How do you add a page-break? How can videos be embedded? All these questions and more are answered if you read our guide to all things related to BruinPlanners.
History:
BruinPlanners was founded in 2009 as an experiment in collaboration and discussion on urban planning issues by Jeremy Cogan, Niall Huffman, and David DeRosa. The name was coined by Ashley Westman.
