The Regional Targets Advisory Committee (RTAC) for SB375 just posted their final report which details their recommendations to the California Air Resources Board (CARB) on setting reasonable targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Camping Trip
Yesterday in the Assembly Meeting, I mentioned that a camping trip is being organized. We are unable to present full details yet due to difficulties in finding available campsites withing 1.5 hours of West LA where we can have a campfire. Here are the details
The camping trip would be one night, either a Friday or Saturday of the weekend of Oct. 16 or 23.
We have been looking mainly along the beach as you can't go wrong with the beach and fires are permitted there, but most are all booked up or we can't reserve because the State is deciding whether it wants to shut the campground down. Most of the National Forests around LA have prohibited campfires in their campgrounds. A third option is a desert park, though in October the night would be nice (lots of stars and cool or cold), but the day could be hot and shadeless.
What I would like to know right now is whether you are interested in attending (I will make an email list of only those interested so that every communication doesn't have to go over the listserves)? Which weekend/day works best for you? Also, do you know of any open camping areas near LA if our first options fall through that have openings on any of these days?
Finally, many may be worried that you don't have the necessary equipment. Don't worry. If you let this be known I am sure that we could dig up some. Also, the outdoor rec center at UCLA rents gear for cheap.

We're making the call for happy hour in honor of the author/hipster Tom Vanderbilt, who is coming to the Actors Gang give a talk about his New York Times-best selling non-fiction book Traffic next Wednesday.
(His book, by the way, is well-written, well-researched, and does a great job of taking some very technical, nerdy ideas related to things like congestion pricing. Better yet, Tom does a great job of translating these ideas into words that non-urban planners/transportation geeks can understand and relate to. It's the kind of book I aspire to write.)

Traffic can seem like a law of the universe: an ever-present, incontrovertible, inexplicable force. Back-ups simply happen, the other lanes always move faster, and nearby drivers are consistently inept. But traffic has a comprehensible logic — particular physical dynamics rule the flow of cars; psychology governs drivers’ assumptions and actions; and laws and technology underpin attempts at efficiency and safety on the road. Tom Vanderbilt, author of Traffic: Why We Drive The Way We Do and What It Says About Us, visits Zócalo to explore how human nature, our relationship to our built urban environment, and a host of other complex physical, psychological, and social interactions create the phenomenon of traffic.
